Medical licensure

Florida physician licensure

Florida Board of Medicine licenses physicians in Florida, for both MD and DO applicants. For a Florida hire, licenses renew on a biennial cycle and renewal carries a CME requirement (40 hours: 38 general AMA Category I; 2 prevention of medical errors; 2 controlled-substance prescribing for physicians registered with USDEA; 2 domestic violence every third biennium. First renewal has exemptions). Florida's compact status is participating non-SPL.

Informational only. Licensing rules change. Confirm current requirements with the state medical board before applying.

With Florida in the compact as participating non-SPL, a candidate licensed in another member state can apply through the IMLC instead of a full application to the Florida Board of Medicine.
