Anesthesiology workforce salary benchmarks

BLS May 2025 Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) estimates give owners a consistent starting point for compensation planning, recruiting ranges and labor cost assumptions. The estimates describe employee wages. They do not measure partner distributions, practice owner compensation, benefits, call pay or total contract value.

BLS did not publish a May 2025 OEWS estimate for anesthesiologist assistants under a distinct occupation code, so that role does not have a national wage row here. A missing state or national cell appears as "Not published by BLS." That label identifies an unavailable published estimate, not a zero.

Using wage estimates in operating decisions

Compare the local labor market with the pay and coverage your group needs to offer. A wage percentile can help frame an employee recruiting range, while staffing plans should also account for shifts, call coverage, benefits, payroll costs, location and the mix of employed and contracted clinicians. Use actual collections and staffing schedules when assessing whether a compensation plan fits operating margin. The OEWS mean and median are not profit targets and should not be treated as owner pay.

Data notes

BLS wages are estimates for employees. They do not report owner distributions or practice-specific contract compensation. BLS suppresses some estimates when publication standards are not met; those cells appear as "Not published by BLS" on the state pages. Use posted wages as one recruiting reference alongside your own compensation records.
